Surgery Pre- Operative Patient Guide

Please read carefully to ensure your safety and optimal healing.

TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO SURGERY

  • Stop Non-Tylenol Painkillers: Cease all anti-inflammatory medications. Only Tylenol is permitted.
  • Stop Supplements & Vitamins: Cease all herbal supplements. They can thin blood and cause excessive bleeding/bruising.
  • Prescription Blood Thinners: If you take Aspirin, Plavix, or Coumadin, ONLY stop with permission from your cardiologist or primary doctor. Discuss this with them at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.
  • Stop Smoking: Nicotine impairs and delays the healing process. Stop smoking entirely.
  • Arrange Care: Secure help for chores and childcare. You must rest completely during early recovery.

ITEMS TO PREPARE AT HOME

Please purchase these essential recovery items before your surgery date:

  • Snack-size Ziploc bags (to fill with frozen peas)
  • Ice packs and sterile gauze pads
  • Q-tips and Extra Strength Tylenol

Note: Prescriptions will be sent to your pharmacy on surgery day. Please arrange for pickup.

  • Start Bromelain: Take to minimize post-operative swelling.
  • Instructions: Follow bottle dosages. Continue for 1–2 weeks post-surgery. (Found at Whole Foods, Amazon or pharmacies).

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Clothing & Makeup: Wear comfortable clothing. Arrive with a clean face and no makeup.

    • OR/ Anesthesia: MANDATORY FAST. Do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to surgery.
